Brazil and Beyond - Up the Amazon

    1/2014 Brazil and Beyond
This was a 21-day cruise from Rio to Miami, with one week sailing the Amazon up to Manaus, on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner. High marks all around.
    Full Review
Our cruise departed from Rio de Janeiro and sailed up the coast of Brazil with stops in Salvador da Bahia, and several ports on the Amazon River. After leaving the Amazon (very very interesting), we also stopped in Barbados, St. Barths and San Juan, P. R., on the way to final destination, Miami. While the ship is due to go into drydock in April 2014, it did not seem worn at all, except maybe needing new carpets in some areas! It's a lovely ship holding about 700 passengers, with plenty of outdoor space, including all balconies in the suites. Favorite features were all-inclusive pricing, very nice guest launderettes, very friendly and accommodating staff, super cruise directors, terrific food. The included tours are very high quality, with over-the-top tours extra cost. The included wine and spirits very good quality - name brands, and unstinting quantities. Special requests accommodated with a can-do attitude. Beds are awesome, with high-end linens - slept beautifully. The entertainment is generally excellent, as were the speakers at the enrichment lectures (two every sea day).
Pros All-inclusive, accommodating staff, medium-size ship, lectures and many other activities, excellent dining
    Cons Really none

    Regent Mariner

    6/2013 Mediterranean
I hosted the Regent Mariner from Monte Carol to Venice. Our Signature guests were a lot of fun. We had a cocktail party, we did water aerobics in the pool and had dinner with several of the guests.
    Full Review
The ship is 100% suites all with balconies on the Mariner. Let’s hear it for all inclusive! Now you can have it all! Cocktails, specialty restaurants, gratuities, transfers, air fares & free unlimited SHORE EXCURSIONS! With Travelstore’s Signature amenities, you would have a ship board credit to go shopping in the gift shop or have treatments in the Canyon Ranch Spa!

There are 5 dining choices on the Marnier - The main dining room is the Compass Rose, where you have a variety of dishes to choose from, 5 courses, nice intermezzo, and wine being poured to your heart’s content. Veggie, Kosher and Spa menus are also available…

La Veranda is a bit more laid back than the Compass Rose, and it is lovely on the aft deck to watch amazing sunsets. It offers the same wonderful service up there as well as a selection of fabulous wines. The cuisine is Italian, and it delivers! The biggest difference in the service is that you order from a menu and your salad and appetizers are buffet style. Amazing, and we wished we had found this restaurant earlier!

There are 2 specialty restaurants - Signatures and Prime 7. Signatures, a French restaurant, is lovely & romantic. The food was delicious! Reservations are required, no worries you can reserve both specialty restaurants online before you board!

Prime 7 was my absolute favorite on board restaurant! They have the traditional old school steak house menu, complete with creamed spinach! It was to die for! I would have loved to go back to that restaurant, and I will the very next time I sail on Regent Seven Seas! And I can’t wait!

Up on deck one evening there is a huge BBQ! Complete with all of the chefs and crew. Both sides of the ship were filled with salads, sushi, raw bar, pasta, roast pig, roast beef, and yummy deserts. Then the band came to play and the ship just danced the night away!

Upon return to the ship in Civitavecchia (the port for Rome) there was a huge welcome home sign on the side of the ship, a band playing, and the staff applauding each and every guest as they returned to the ship. Since my sister and I stayed locally while there, we experienced this all to ourselves, we were feeling like Hollywood A-listers! Autographs anyone?

Several social meeting places were the Coffee Connection for fresh lattes and espresso all day and night.

The Horizon lounge where live entertainment performs nightly, Observation lounge where the piano is going most nights, Stars lounge for disco, The Mariner Lounge for before or after dinner drinks, and let’s not forget the Connoisseur Club, a place where cigars are in fashion, there is bar service, and laughter is inevitable!

Regent Seven Seas delivers luxury and will not disappoint. The inclusiveness of this cruise line and the level of service you are going to receive is priceless!

The thought of not worrying about this while on vacation, actually puts you on vacation! In a word WOW!
Pros Beautiful ship, great staff, amazing food, fun ports, no stress

The Amazon River is a must see. Being able to do it aboard Regent Seven Seas makes it that much more incredible. The Pool Grill is still a favorite place for lunch.

Signature Travel Network Host--The Ultimate Amazon--Rio to Miami

    12/2012 Brazil
We had an excellent cruise with Regent! We were hosting 48 guests onboard and everything went very smoothly. Regent staff was outstanding and took care of every need we had, promptly and efficiently! - Kelly and Linda Turnwall.
    Full Review
Overall, the cruise deserves an excellent rating. Our only suggestions are that the menu in the main dining room be enhanced to include more main course selections--we found them to be somewhat limited at times. Both Prime 7 and Signature specialty restaurants were outstanding. One other comment is regarding the in-suite television programming. While very good overall, you really need to consider adding a US sports channel such as ESPN so guests can keep up with sports activities in the US. Our cruise was during the NFL playoffs and sometimes it would be 2 days before we found out the scores of various games.
Pros Outstanding Staff; We also loved La Veranda (Food, Service and Atmosphere)
Cons Limited Menu--Main Dining Room; US TV Sports Channel (In-Suite)

Spend a little more time at ports instead of leaving early and waiting to dock in early am .Entertainment should have been tailored to older crowd , songs shoyuld have been from 50's, 60's and 70's. The Jean Ann Ryan team seemed a bit lacking in timing and connecting with the audience.

Seven Seas Mariner 2015 Oct 21-31 Rome to Lisbon

    10/2015
This was a great cruise and a beautiful ship. I find that Regent has excellent value for the price. My clients love it and give it excellent reviews.
    Full Review
The itinerary was a wonderful Mediterranean sampling that included Italy, Monaco, France, Spain and Portugal. A special treat for many long time RSSC cruisers was a first time port call at Rock of Gibraltar. It is almost impossible to think that this ship was built in 2001. She looks fresh and elegant. All suite, all balcony and so much public space that it's difficult to believe that she is sold out as always. We received good food, great service, no waiting, good attitudes and smiling faces. There's not much more to wish for. The guests are a wide range of ages and guests all seemed to enjoy themselves. I did not see any growling, scowling people at the Purser's desk.
Pros Service is a strong suit, food is very good
Cons I saw several less able guests who had trouble with the gangway. While there are sturdy handrails the length of the gangway at the bottom it yields to a less than sturdy rope rail. They should always keep a person at the bottom and at the top who can offer strong assistance.

    Another wonderful cruise

    9/2015 Italy, Greece, Turkey
    Full Review
Mariner offers a truly first class cruise experience for singles and couples traveling alone as well as families exploring the world together. The wide variety of 'free' tours is enough to keep 95% of cruisers happy. The food quality is as good as any afloat in either of the dining rooms. We really enjoyed dining outdoors every evening (with good weather). PH 830 has a pole next to the bed so you need to be smaller in size on the right side of the bed. PH are very spacious. Internet package was competitively priced and service was good onboard. The evening entertainment was sufficient although lacking much in the way of dancing. Poolside was great with plenty of shade. We loved that there policy was little to no onboard announcements or trying to sell you photos as you left the ship at each dock - great feeling of not being 'marketed to' while on vacation although they had a well informed cruise consultant to help with future cruise bookings. Lorraine, the Cruise Director is brilliant!
Pros Food, Included Tour Varieties, Inclusions, Stateroom Space & Storage,
Cons Tour times & ratings of levels of activity were not reliable, onboard lack of activities, plumbing slow downs, limited onboard shops

    Full Review
10 night sailing to terrific ports of calls. This sailing offered many small unusual ports with a good variety of shore excursions in each port. The ship was the perfect size. The staff onboard was exceptional and the food was outstanding.
    Pros Great itineary
Cons Not enough time in Kotor Montenegro

Wonderful cruise on SS Mariner. The ship is lovely and the food and service excellent.
    Full Review
The ship has been beautifully refurbished. It is a very comfortable ship with lovely appointments. The ship is the perfect size, large enough for variety in dining and entertainment, while not overwhelming or too large for smaller ports of call. The food in all the restaurants was excellent. The fact that the evening dress code is "Elegant Casual" makes packing and dressing for dinner much simpler, particularly on a port intensive cruise such as this.  Most of the included tours were excellent, though sometimes difficult to hear the guides.  They would have been better if headsets were provided.
Pros Excellent food, service, nicely appointed staterooms, comfortable ship, interesting ports
Cons Would have liked better pre dinner music, Tour groups should have been smaller or headsets provided.

Seven Seas Mariner March 22, 2015 Buenos Aires to Rio 11 nights

    3/2015 Buenos Aires to Rio
Excellent Captain and crew, safety and cleanliness are top notch. Ship public rooms and Compass Rose Restaurant look beautiful. New Art. Good food. Serving staff seemed quite stressed at times. Not enough diverse activities during the day , Excellent lecturer not utilized enough. Entertainment was very repetitive. good but not great.

The main city stops were Montevideo, Santos and Rio. There were several days with tenders and some days the seas were rough. Most stops featured beaches and some hiking or sailing/snorkeling outings. Entertainment and enrichment were weak on this cruise.
Pros lovely ship, clean comfortable, good food. Cabins spacious and very comfortable.
Cons Some Entertainers weren't able to get on board because of visas. Little of interest in daily activities.

Sorry we lost the Xmas decorations contest. We lost 2-1/2 days of shore activities, but received no real compensation. Should get additional tour, harbor, special meal, wine selection, or whatever. Next, you need to schedule tours more than once on cruise. We wanted to do several tours on ship, but they were offered only once with lots of conflicts.
Pros Food, service, care of staff, shows
Cons Academic attitude of asst. cruise director, weather, lost tours, COMPENSATION was zero.

    South Pacific Discovery

12/2014 Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Zealand
Regent Mariner is a great ship to sail, on no mater your destination! I have been in Europe (very busy, port intensive) and now on a relaxing South Pacific Cruise (many sea days). A fantastic holiday cruise!
    Full Review
I am such a big fan of Regent Seven Seas! I love the ship, the food is outstanding and my husband relaxed for the first time in a few years! My group was about 54 guests, we had a lot of fun with them. Starting with the cocktail party we all made new friends and I had some questions from several guests but had helped with the resolve of any issue they had. We shared cocktails, dinners, lunches and even breakfasts with the Signature guests. The ship is well maintained and the crew is amazing! I had remembered several of the wait staff from my June cruise, and all were very welcoming. Lots of families and multi- generations on the double holiday voyage. Good to see children having fun on board. The Captain is very approachable and charming as only an Italian Captain can be, the food and beverage director was fantastic as were his crew. We were rained out of 2 Tahitian islands as it is wet season in December, but it was great to relax on board. The cuisine was exceptional, my favorite restaurant is Signatures with a French influence, but Prime 7 was a close runner up! The buffet up top on the 11th deck by day, turns into a lovely Al fresco restaurant in the evenings and has an Italian cuisine, very casual but very elegant. The shows in the showroom featured a Cirque Du Soleil type of act, I wasn't a fan as the gymnast was EXTREMELY thin, so hard to watch, and once you saw the act once, the next time you saw it, it was the same act to a different song. On New years eve they did a James Bond theme in the show room with a martini tasting fun in the audience. The islands were great, my favorite was Champagne Beach in Vanuatu, it was perfect! The perfect powder sugar sand, the clear blue water with the perfect temperature and a sand bottom, it was heaven! New Zealand was my 2nd favorite in the Bay of Islands we had a great kayaking trip to a waterfall, free time after to enjoy the adorable town! In Fiji it was lovely, hubby Jake became the chief in Suva! another great place for waterfall fans like us! Overall I would do this trip over and over again it was awesome!
Pros all inclusive luxury, fabulous staterooms, delicious food, fun itinerary
Cons unexpected formal nights (3), entertainment is just ok

    Mariner 23SEP14 Voyage

    9/2014 Mediterranean
Our sailing on the Mariner was perhaps the best cruise we have ever taken, from a service and food standpoint.
    Full Review
The ship itself looks great - the recent renovation has left the common areas feeling new and very chic, but still comfortable. Our stateroom was very clean and felt like that of a new ship. The storage space was wonderful. We were especially impressed by the food onboard and were thrilled to be able to provide a galley tour to our group with Chef Kelly Cochrane. Every meal or snack we had was excellent and we enjoyed delicious meals in all three specialty restaurants. The only thing that we found better than the food was the service. The staff on board, from the captain to the room stewards, were friendly, anxious to help, and eager to bring you whatever you wanted. In particular, we enjoyed Maria and Zennifer, who waited nights in the Italian restraunt, and Ashley, who was head of security and always welcomed us by name when we left or returned to the ship. Every show we saw was professional and very entertaining. We heard many, many people onboard (include a casting director) who felt as if the shows and performers were Broadway quality. We did not use the spa, but heard great things from friends who did. The gym was perfect for the size and clientele on the ship - it just would have been better if it opened at 6 AM, instead of 7 AM as this made it difficult to workout with 8 AM shore excursions. The only thing we felt was not really up to par was the shore excursion offerings. I understand that the clientele on this ship might like half-day excursions so that they can return to the ship for lunch, which is fine. It would have been nice to have been able to participate in two excursions on some days. In addition, we found that the time allowed to do/see anything in a 3-4 hour excursion was not really sufficient and felt rushed. However, most of the guides we had were very knowledgeable and easy to understand. Finally, the staff assigned to work with our group was second to none. They were willing to do anything and everything to help us ensure that our group received some extra care. This ship's staff would serve as a great training model for exceptional service onboard a cruise ship.
Pros staff, food, ship's amenities and furnishings were fantastic
Cons Shore excursions were mediocre and seemed somewhat limited.

    Regents Cruise to the Mediterranean

9/2014 Venice, Ravenna, Split, Dubrovik, Corfu, Capri, Sicily, Amalfi, Rome
    Full Review
The ship was GREAT! The pre & post cruise hotels not so much. Be sure to discuss them before booking. Pre-cruise hotel was located on a barrier island instead of the mainland of Venice. Having to wait on water taxi's really limited our ability to see and explore Venice. Other passengers on the same cruise were located on the mainland of Venice. I don't understand... The post cruise hotel was a five star hotel but lacked warmth & comfort. The Palazzo Montemartini was very contemporary, cold, & utilitarian. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would recommend it to others.
    Pros Many beautiful Ports
Cons Pre Cruise hotel not convenient

My husband and I just returned from a Mediterranean Cruise on the Regent Mariner. It was, by far, the trip of a lifetime! We already booked an Alaskan Cruise for next summer with Regent as well. We don't have one complaint about the cruise, everything was seamless. Looking forward to next summer for round two!

Regent Seven Seas Mariner -June 29, 2014

    6/2014 Barcelona to Rome
Regent Seven Seas is doing many things well. They have a loyal following for a reason. They have hired extremely professional people and it was a pleasure to work with them. The reception desk and Food and beverage manager Anatoli Makaev were outstanding. How they keep their sense of humor is a miracle. The Mariner has had a multi million dollar refurbishment, in fact over the last few years improvements to the fleet are close to 100 million dollars.
    Full Review
The ship looks really wonderful. Great attention to detail was put into decor and lighting of public spaces. The Mariner Lounge looks both cozy and elegant and was a favorite. The Observation Lounge looks beautiful but misses a little on the comfort level. Both specialty restaurants remain in high demand and still get great reviews. Sette Mari (which is La Veranda, transformed at night to an Italian restaurant) has gained in popularity and was often full. Suites have had a facelift and the verandah furniture is cushy and comfortable. The pool area is still in the process of a facelift and is going to be beautiful. My cruise on June 29 had 3 ports canceled, 2 due to weather too choppy to tender and one due to a strike in Marseille. Regent made the cancelation late in the evening for Port Vendres so upon arrival in the alternate port of Sete the next day, there were no excursions but guests were able to go ashore. Marseille was canceled for the following day so Regent was able to put together excursions from Sete to appease the guests. The 3rd cancelation was the following day in Saint Tropez so Villefranche-Sur-Mer was quickly substituted. All in all a good recovery. Some grumbles but I think most were satisfied that Regent had made incredible efforts to salvage the situation.
Pros Everything looks fresh and new. It has the "new ship smell". Almost every area has been tweaked.
Cons The final stages of the refurbishment are still happening and a little disruptive for people who did not go on shore excursions. Tile cutting is very noisy.

    On board the Regent Mariner

    5/2014 Mediterranean
Cruised from Rome to Istanbul on the recently refurbished Regent Mariner. She sparkles from the curtain in the main showroom to the ceilings in the Stars Lounge. Cabins are bright and roomy and balconies beg to be used.

Shore excursions were included and guides for the most part were extremely well informed. Staff was always available to assist with any needs. Cuisine in the alternative dining venues was excellent, well prepared and service outstanding. The Cirque show was one of the best performances I've ever seen on a cruise.
